Gavin Rixon, Managing Director
Regarded as a natural born entrepreneur by his peers, clients and colleagues alike, Gavin Rixon is the Managing Director of GTL Partnership Ltd. A professionally qualified Quantity Surveyor who studied with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Gavin is currently working towards ICE Chartership.
Gavin's strong commercial, technical and managerial background within the construction sector combined with his open, focused and energetic management style makes him the ideal head of GTL Partnership Ltd. Ambitious and passionate, he is an individual of great integrity and ability. Clients value the fact that Gavin and his team are motivated to reach their demanding goals and objectives but do so in an open and helpful can-do manner.
Gavin's many professional achievements and experience over the years include:
- Receiving international recognition and certification from Cable & Wireless for formulating a ground breaking idea as part of their global ‘Winning Idea’ Programme
- Being the lead consultant for Reliance (India) where he managed the design and planning for a National Communications network with a $5 billion spend
- Being the Project Director for an Oil and Gas project in Asia
- Successfully attaining patent on an innovative piling technique
- Being the Commercial Manager at Bechtel on the National Physical Laboratory - a PFI design and build contract worth £180 million
Gavin has been the Project Director on numerous multi-million pound construction projects in the UK and abroad.
Gavin is an under 16 head rugby coach, enjoys sailing and is training for several marathons amongst other challenges. He has represented his county in both rugby and judo.
Barnaby Tanner, Commercial Manager
Barnaby has 20 years experience in the construction industry, starting out ‘on the tools’ while gaining his qualifications as a building surveyor. He has worked on numerous prestigious contracts throughout London and the South East, including the MI6 Building, Broadgate (phased regeneration of Liverpool St Station), The Old Bailey and The British Library. Before joining GTL, Barnaby spent the previous 9 years in the telecommunications industry.
Barnaby’s considerable experience includes:
- Twenty years in the construction industry, a significant proportion of which was spent as a site manager. With some years also spent facing the challenges of working overseas, Barnaby can rightly claim to have accumulated an in depth knowledge of all aspects of construction and business.
- A decade of experience in managing the commercial aspects of construction sites (including quantity surveying, tendering for works, cost control and reconciliation of final accounts) has helped to mould Barnaby into an articulate and effective communicator and a key team player.
- Many years spent as a senior quantity surveyor managing an internal team of up to 15 surveyors and external client relationships within Vodafone, O2, Three, T-Mobile, Crown Castle and Arqiva.
- Two years as Southern Regional Manager for the UK’s largest wireless telecoms network infrastructure provider. He was solely responsible for managing a business unit with a regional turnover in excess of £5m per annum.
Tristan Toynbee, Technical Director
Tristan Toynbee studied Civil Engineering at Exeter University from where he obtained a masters degree, with honours. He went on to join Arup Research & Development in 2001 before moving to one of the main building groups within Arup.
Working at Arup, Tristan honed his engineering skills in design and worked on major projects such as the Idea Stores in Bow and Whitechapel, followed by The British Library Centre for Conservation, The Cube in Tottenham Court Road, London and large, mixed use developments in Moscow.
Tristan has been the lead engineer on numerous multi-million pound construction projects in the UK and abroad. As the Technical Director of GTL, Tristan is responsible for the design aspects of GTL's work, along with leading the company’s Research and Development programme.
Recently Tristan led the engineering team on GTL's recent major project in Kazakhstan. With complicated soil conditions and tight client requirements, Tristan performed the vital co-ordination role with Arup Geotechnics to better understand the particular geotechnical conditions under the site.
